COLLECT

For Easter Day.

Easter Collect
O Lord God Almighty, You have raised up Your Son, rolling away the stone from the tomb and turning aside the flaming sword that barred our way back to Eden. Through Your Son, the Way, the gate of everlasting life has opened. May we ever thirst and hunger to dine with You in Your eternal kingdom. We ask this through this same Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

THOUGHTS

Tiny Forget Me Not flower Acts 10:34-43
"Lord of All"

The words that strike the spark of illumination here are these: "God shows no partiality" and "he is Lord of all." When the Gospel is first preached to the Gentiles, here is Peter proclaiming that God's love and Jesus' sacrifice on the Cross include me. I am called to His kingdom, to allegiance to this Jesus.

Tiny Forget Me Not flower Isaiah 25:6-9
"Swallow Up Death Forever"

I have this image of Jesus, the Cosmic macrophage, swallowing up this parasite, this alien intruder "death." This passage has a feast of images to play with. This IS the God for whom we have waited!

Tiny Forget Me Not flower Psalm 118:1-2, 14-24
"This Is The Gate Of The Lord... The Stone The Builders Rejected"

A song of victory ....A hymn of praise. This psalm is a singing one. Sing!

Tiny Forget Me Not flower John 20:1-18
"Low Key"

Okay. So, what would you do? "The disciples returned to their homes...." What was it that the disciples believed here? That someone had taken the body? It says that "as yet they did not understand...." It remains for Mary to wait and weep in her despair. What was she waiting for? God comes as we wait. Do we recognize God when He appears? How did Mary Magdalene recognize Jesus? What is our response to hearing our name called?

Tiny Forget Me Not flower Mark 16:1-8
"Seized By Terror And Amazement"

I know these women. They are me. In shock. On seeing the angel who greets them with, "Do not be afraid," they are seized by terror. Had they really seen an angel? Heard an angel? Had they stood on holy ground? Jesus, risen from the dead? Had they seen a ghost? Last week, though not seized with terror but stricken with awe, I found myself unable to speak to the Holy Week texts. I think I can now understand a little of the why. My awe at what God is/was doing in my personal life had seized hold of me. and all I could do was contemplate it.

EASTER THOUGHTS

Easter 2000

This is my year of Jubilee. In that Jubilee I have made and am making a very special journey - I joined the Roman Catholic Church at the Easter Vigil on Holy Saturday April 22nd. The family of God at Sacred Heart in Golden has warmly welcomed me in their midst and I am now in full communion. Words fail me at this moment. Except to say to my husband, "Thank you for your loving support, understanding and blessing" and to my father Charles Thompson and my Aunt Wilma Campagnaro, "Thank you for your blessing." I dedicate this page to my greatgrandmother Mary Norcotte of Newfoundland and to my Patron Saint, martyr Edith Stein, Saint Teresa Benedicta of the Cross.
